Case study Ferrari Group

Peplink protects your values

When transporting objects of the highest value, it is important to always have everything under control. You need to continuously monitor the vehicles and their surroundings in order to assess and counter any threats in real time – a complex situation that requires an accurate mobile video surveillance system.

This is exactly the problem faced by Ferrari Group, a company specialised in the international transport of gold, precious gems and valuable goods, with a fleet of over a hundred armored vehicles.

To ensure the safe path of the transported items, Ferrari Group needed to “see” and remain constantly connected to its vehicles so that the cargo and personnel could be protected at all costs and reach customers safely.

A difficult task, especially considering the size of the company, but the Guardian Eagle project developed by security consulting firm Trium did what was required and much more.

THE CHALLENGE

  • Create a system of constant communication with the entire fleet.
  • Develop a system suitable for installation on vehicles.
  • Manage the cellular and GPS connection from a single device.

THE SOLUTION

  • MAX HD2 LTE – for connection on larger vehicles.
  • MAX BR1 3G – for connection on smaller vehicles.
  • InControl2 – for real-time monitoring of routes and fleet.

ADVANTAGES

  • Uninterrupted connectivity through band aggregation.
  • Encrypted transmission of sensitive security data.
  • Easy fleet monitoring via Google Maps interface.

“The chance to rely on a partner as developed as Peplink allows us to give substance to those ideas and projects that until now would have been impossible to implement.”

The Guardian Eagle project

The Guardian Eagle project includes a pair of BALANCE 580s installed in high reliability inside the control room of FERRARI GROUP and, on each vehicle of the armored truck fleet, a Peplink MAX HD2 or a MAX BR1, depending on the size of the vehicle, connected via SPEEDFUSION VPN to the headquarters and remotely managed via INCONTROL 2.

All vehicles can thus be constantly monitored centrally by the team in the control room, which can check the position of the vehicle and the conditions inside and outside it in real time using high-definition images and video. The aggregation of 3G connections allows to have a sufficient bandwidth for the transfer of 3 Megapixel images (2048×1536 pixels) captured by the cameras mounted on board, while the failover between cellular connections of different operators ensures a reliable connection at all times. The collected multimedia material is then saved in local memory, ready to be streamed in case the vehicles are involved in a security incident.

Connessione ad alta sicurezza

The MAX HD2 and MAX BR1 are designed and certified for installation in vehicles and mobile vehicles. The double power input and DC block power supply ensure the operation of the two devices even in the most critical situations. The GUARDIAN EAGLE takes advantage of these features by supplying power for hours either through the vehicle’s battery or through an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), thus allowing vehicles to maintain contact with the control centre even hours after the vehicle has stopped and in the event of breakdowns or accidents.

Thanks to Peplink and TRIUM, FERRARI GROUP customers can finally be sure that their assets will be protected by the best mobile security and video surveillance technology.
